This theoretical and practical workshop will introduce basic aspects of geochemistry applied to mineral exploration. The workshop will focus specifically on magmatic-hydrothermal deposits, with a clear emphasis on copper porphyries. Procedures for interpreting multi-element compositional data from rock and soil to infer rock types and hydrothermal alteration will be discussed. Participants will work with real data in groups, using the ioGAS software (laptops are recommended).
